Hostgator Reseller hosting for beginners

With proper web hosting reseller plan, you will only require just a little knowledge in maintaining user accounts, and focus on marketing work to sell more hosting account and generate good revenue from it.

When talk about reseller hosting, we always consider the profit margin. Its always the biggest concern, and we always asked ourselves how much should we earn to have good income. Frankly speaking, having 10 customers will not give you good income. This is real world business and I really mean serious business.

Aim for 10 sign up on the first week running your web hosting reselling. And aim to hit the 100 accounts in less than two months time. You can create multiple hosting package to choose from, at least two package. And allow customer to upgrade their account if they want to. And you can earn more this way.

To promote your hosting plan, you can setup a nice website and offering user to sign up online and paid through credit cards.

Don't worry about billing gateway thing, hostgator provides the reseller account with billing software included as well. And you can receive payment directly and the account will automatically setup after they sign up. Its simple, and require very little efforts. This is one of the best reseller hosting I ever come across, and more details found here http://www.hostgatorreview.org/hostgator/hostgator-reseller/  about hostgator reseller plan.

Alternative marketing strategy is to invite friends or business partner to use your hosting plan, offering web design services and hosting services, join web hosting forums and promote your hosting plan, put advertisement through google adwords or other PPC network. And there is lots more marketing strategy that you can think of.

When your hosting company is new, focus on generate revenue. The more revenue you got, the faster you can grow. Once you are ready, upgrade your reseller plan and you can sell even more.

Niche Marketing with Great Articles

Niche Marketing with Great Articles

By Cody Moya

Get Cody's Affiliate and Internet Marketing Training Videos right here!

One of the most magnificent qualities of the Internet is that, by bringing the world close together, it enables people who fill one tiny corner of interest to come together, marketing to each other, sharing ideas, and growing as a niche community.

For instance, consider antique marble collecting. I don't know many people who collect antique marbles. But if I do a search online, I can find dozens of sites that specialize in it, many with excellent information on their sites, places to trade and sell my antique marbles, and tools with which to make my own marbles.

How can you leverage the enormous power of niche marketing?

The best way is by providing your web site with great content focused directly at these niche markets. Instead of selling to the masses who are interested in Bono and Coca-cola, sell to those who are hungry for information and resources concerning their special interest.

In order to do this, you must identify yourself as an expert in the field you're targeting.

Becoming A Guru in your Niche

Gurus are the wise men who sit on the mountains, dispensing advice. You don't have to sit on a mountain but you do need to dispense advice if you're going to be a guru. This means you should know what you're talking about.

Online, degrees and education don't mean as much as the information you can prove you have. The way you prove your knowledge online is by supplying your website, whether it's a sales website or a networking one, with great, original, valuable content.

This is great news for anyone who writes well. Despite its promotion as a great image-based medium, the Internet is primarily a text-based medium.

It delivers pictures, music, and video very well indeed, but most information today is contained in text, and the search engines that catalog your website deal in text as well (even the image-based search engines focus on the titles and descriptive text you assign to your pictures and video).

But what if you know your niche market, but don't write well? There's a solution for that too. You can purchase content others have written for you from YourOwnArticles.com, or you can have content custom-written for your niche market.

Finding Great Website Content

There are numerous great places to find content online to add to your website, and - better yet - you can get the content for free.

Or so it would seem.

Sites like Free-Article-Directory.net, GoArticles.com and Idea Marketers are known as article directories. They provide the service of matching well-written, informative content with webmasters who desperately need it.

The articles are free for the taking, with the caveat that if you display one on your website, you must also cite the article's author and link to his or her website.

Well, free isn't always free. And in this case, when you're trying to establish yourself as a knowledgeable expert in a niche market, it's likely to undermine your entire purpose.

When you list someone else as the author of an informative article on your website, you're setting that other person up as the guru on your website.

And you're even providing this competing guru with the ultimate marketing tool - a link to his or her website when they've just interested the customer with an excellent piece of information.

Instead of using article directories, you're better off running articles on your website that you can claim as your own. You want articles ghostwritten for you, and the way to obtain them is to go to article brokers like YourOwnArticles.com.

These companies deal with private label articles, content that you can claim as your own because all rights to the article have been sold by the author. Instead of advertising someone else as the guru, you've just shown your customers that you, yourself, are the knowledgeable one.

Articles, Newsletters, and Ebooks

Private label articles can be used either as individual articles or content on your website, or they can be used to build newsletters that you can send out to subscribers.

If you get a nice collection of articles, you can even create ebooks to sell or give away to your customers as reference sources. All of these purposes are valid and intelligent ways to use private label articles, and any of them will drive business to, not away from, your website.

Choosing and Testing Keywords for SEO
By homepage-building, 17:13

Part of writing and testing keywords is to keep careful track of your results. Keeping documents of how much traffic using certain words can help you track results. As those in the business of SEO optimization have discovered keywords and keyword phrases that seemed to work yesterday may not work today. Keeping track of your keywords simply by noting those that bring you profits and those that don't are ways of figuring out what makes money for you and what doesn't.

One of the most popular ways to choose keywords is to do so through hit results. One good place to look at keywords for your blog or website is the overture keyword engine inventory. All you need to do is put in a few phrases or words that apply to your business or service and then assess them by popularity.

Another great place for looking up keywords is a site named Word Tracker. They have a database of over 40 million results that is updated every 2 hours. If you enter a phrase or a word you can see how many people are actually searching for that keyword. You have to pay to use word tracker but there is a sliding scale. It costs about eight bucks U.S. to use it for 24 hours.

A yearly membership is $274 U.S. When looking at these keywords keep in mind that you are never looking for keywords that are too popular or that are too well used. This is because these keywords are too general and will bring untargeted traffic to your site. Untargeted traffic is traffic that is looking for someone else but ends up on your site anyway.

They are like tenants that don't pay rent because all they do is use up your bandwidth. Remember that the most specific and targeted keywords are never the ones that are the most popular.

The Death of AdSense -- Is AdSense Really Dead?
By homepage-building, 20:59

The Death of AdSense!  -- Is AdSense Really Dead?

There is a lot of talk lately about "The Death of AdSense. What is the real truth? Should we all take AdSense off our sites? Is there something better to use in it's place? What am I going to do with all these AdSense sites I have?

No need to panic!

AdSense isn't dead or even terminally ill. Read on to see the logic in this whole argument and then you can breathe a sigh of relief.

The Truth About AdSense:

First of all, do you think Google makes any money from AdSense? Of course they do. They make huge amounts of money. Is it logical to think they are going to let that revenue source just die off? No, it's not. Google isn't going to change the program to the point where it will not be profitable for you.

They are always making changes in all their programs, to make surfing the net better for everyone. If they take the profit out of AdSense, they are going to lose a bundle. They know this and they aren't going to cut that income source for themselves, therefore they aren't going to cut it off for you either.

Next, Google is enhancing the AdSense program as you read this. They just came out with a way for you to add video to your site through AdSense. If this was a dying program would Google keep improving it? Hmmm....

And Finally, the man who started this whole AdSense scare. Who is he? Where did he come from? Is he really making a killing on his alternative suggestion or is he planning on making a killing by selling you his plan. Think about that for a minute. He comes out of the clear blue claiming to be an internet millionaire yet if you read his ebook, he tells how he manages to pay his rent every month.

If you were a millionaire, would you be paying rent?!?

So the moral of this story is, AdSense is not dead. AdSense is still a great way to make a passive income on the internet. The more sites you have, the quicker you will see those big checks from Google. Don't sweat the gossip, get back to work and keep building AdSense sites.

See you at the bank!

Choosing the Right Keywords for SEO
By homepage-building, 18:06

Choosing the Right Keywords for SEO
by Dennis Watson

I have been so confused latley on determing the value of keywords and SEO. In the past most of my effort has been to determine and promote keywords for my website's main page. As I surfied for keyword advice I came across this article that I found at www.envisionopportunity.com/index.html, no author was listed.

"Many SEO experts will tell you that they have specific ways of choosing the right keywords for a website. Some do it using SEO tools - software that compares possible keywords to see which are used the most. Some will give you DIY methods with spreadsheets. We say, however, that you should try every method you can in the search for keywords. Here are some steps that might help:

Identify and create a list of keywords from meta tags, research on your competitors, your highest-converting products and biggest current traffic sources. For each term (typically between 30 and 50 terms overall), narrow the field down to about 15 or 20, choosing the terms you feel are most relevant to your website.

Your higher ranked competitors are probably up there for a reason so take a look at what they are providing. Make sure that everything is directly relevant and try to stretch yourself out into some unchartered water. The less common that your key words are, the more likely you are to get the search engine results for these key words.

We would recommend a piece of software called WordTracker to find out how many searches have been done on a certain term. You can choose to work with this information however you want - spreadsheets are good, but you can use anything that will make it easy reasonably easy for you to track these keywords. You're trying to find a popular word that has a low competition rate.

Although this is easier said than done, it's very rewarding to find an area where your site can succeed because of the lack of competition. You should remember, though, that these search databases are relatively small, and should be used for comparing keywords against one another rather than for estimating their true 'market sizes'.

This keyword selection research should then be compared with client experience of which keywords may be most profitably optimized, as well as any current ranking on the target keywords. Data from PPC campaigns can be helpful for this. The outcome should be a focused list of, say, 15-20 keywords that are both strong performers in terms of search volume, as well as solid candidates for successful optimization.

When determining how profitable your key words are you should look into your web sites statistics and see what key words were used for what number of sales. This is called your conversion rate. The more sales that are associated with a certain key word, the more valuable that key word is. It is important to account for all of the variables, however.

If ten people come across your site through a certain key word but only one of them buys an item this key word isn't as profitable as a key word that one person finds your site through and still orders a product. It is important to work percentages into your decision of worth of a key word. Your "conversion rate" is the number of sales divided by the number of visitors.

You probably know who your competitors are, so go to their site and open the source code of a few of their pages (select 'View Source' from your browser's menu). Look for the tag to see which keywords they're aiming for. Their keywords are often garbage, but if you look around at a few sites then you can often find keywords you hadn't thought of.

It is not good practice to simply copy and paste a list of key words. It would even be concievable that you would be charged with copyright infringement for such activities. Whether or not you get charged, it is morally wrong. Looking through and coming across a few extra relevant key words is one thing. Steeling an entire list is something else completely.

Another approach is to type in the keywords you have in mind and look at the current top results. Analyze their pages for keywords, descriptions and content - this will give you some idea of what kind of keyword density you should be looking at for your keywords. If the sites that come up are a different kind of business to you altogether then you've probably chosen a dodgy keyword - remember that you're trying to get relevant traffic, not just any traffic.

The general rules that you need to keep in mind when selecting key words are:

1. Try to select unique key words that your competitors have not thought of.

2. Optimize for your most profitable key words. How many sales does the key word generate? How much profit is made for each of these sales?

3. Make sure that the key words are very relevant to your site so that people who find your site through your key words will not immediately leave.

4. Try to assemble a list of key words that covers your site very will so that you aren't leaving anyone or anything out."

Give this advice a try and good luck with your SEO.

Skills Needed For Search Engine Optimization
By homepage-building, 06:27

Skills Needed For Search Engine Optimization

Since search engine optimization is still a relatively new concept, a lot of business establishments think it best to hire search engine optimization firms to handle the online marketing side of their businesses. But what if you can't afford to hire the services of search engine optimization firms? What if you're just starting the business and you don't have enough money for additional advertising? If so, all you can rely on is yourself.

But there's no need to worry just yet because search engine optimization is easier than what you - and many others - think. Granted, it takes practice before you can truly optimize search engine results for your website or business but it's at least a very possible and achievable goal. First, however, we shall concentrate on the skills you need for search engine optimization.

Knowing Your Target Market If you want search engine optimization for your website, you have to know your target market. Because the Internet is such a vast place to explore, knowing your target market would mean more readers for your target market because they can easily relate and understand what you're talking about.

The Content of Your Ad Let's just say you do know your target market already and everything inside your website - from the first word till the very last punctuation used - is meant to convince the reader to purchase the product. But wait...how do they get to your website first? And that's when search engine optimization comes in once more. With engine optimization, it's a guarantee that your website would receive more clicks.

But what could put your website on top of MSN and Google searches? The answer: the content of your ad. Since most companies prefer to use text ads because they're shorter, more cost efficient and less irritating, you have to maximize the content of your ad. Make sure that you're able to convey your message in the shortest, clearest and most effective way possible.

The Use of Keywords Keyword is one of the major factors affecting search engine optimization. If you want to optimize searches done by MSN, Google or Yahoo, you have to make sure that the keyword list you use under your company's name should be the very keywords your target market would type in the search box.

When it comes to keywords, there are only two things that matters: spelling and relevance. Make sure that you include keywords in their correct and incorrect spellings if the keyword is the type to be commonly misspelled such as Czechoslovakia or die-cast (sometimes spelled as one word). And of course, lastly, it has to be relevant.

How to Get Rid of Your Website or Blog Visitors!
By homepage-building, 07:03

How to Get Rid of  Your Website or Blog Visitors!
by Aun Tankaya

To keep your visitors coming back, the main goals of your website are for visitor participation and benefits. Provide an interesting, beneficial and useful website and they will come back!

If your site is annoying you can be sure they will find another site to visit, never to come back to yours.

Here are some ways you can be sure to annoy your visitors: (they might not annoy all, but probably the majority)

** Frames - Chopping up a site with frames is a great way to get your visitors frustrated. These frames are very obtrusive and make navigation and reading your site much harder. They are also disliked by the search engine spiders.

** Overbearing Graphics - Not only are these blinking and flashing graphics distracting and unnecessary, they can also cause your site to download very slowly. Most people do not have the time to sit and wait for an extremely slow site, and will leave before even knowing what your site has to offer.

** No Contact Information - I cannot stress enough how important it is to have your email address and other contact info on every page. This will add credibility to your site and always give your visitors a reason to be assured that you can be reached when needed.

** Hard To Navigate -You want your visitors to be able to get around your site without trouble. Have your links all together in a place that is easily seen. Have them in the same place on every page.

** Inconsistent Page Design - I have been on some sites where after clicking on a link, I didn't even know if I was at the same site. The page was totally different and did not have any of the same information or links as the previous page. After trying to find what I was looking for and not finding it, I left. Please keep your site design uniform and consistent. This will make it much easier on your visitors.

** Spelling and Grammar - Always proofread your web pages. Designing and building a professional website is a waste of time if it reads like a five year old wrote it. With spell checker, grammar checker, dictionaries, etc. there is no excuse for poorly written web pages!

** Too Many Banners -If you want banners on your site, set up a banner exchange page for this purpose only. Do not have your homepage or other pages so loaded with banners that there isn't room for anything else.

** Hard To Read Text - Do not use fancy text or pale text on a pale background. The easiest to read is a dark text on a light background. Also, if you use a textured or print background, be sure that it is not hard on the eyes. One site I visited had a weave look background that made the text so hard to read, after a few minutes of looking around I had to leave because I was getting a headache. If you think it is easy to see get a few more opinions just to be sure!

** Music - Music used to be very common on the web. Practically every site you went to had music. More and more people started realizing that this was a major distraction and annoyance to a lot of people. If you really want music, have a choice for your visitors. Let them decide if they want the music.

** Lack of Content -You've got to have content. People visit a website to see what the site has that will benefit them. Useful, helpful, practical content can't be beat! This would include resources, freebies, tips, ideas, information, interaction, contests, etc.

One thing you can do is visit several sites that pertain to your business. Study these sites and write down what you find annoying. Write down any reasons you have for leaving the site. Take note of what you like about these sites. Incorporate all these findings into creating a sharp, clean, useful blog or website with nothing that will chase away your visitors!

Proven Methods For Obtaining One-Way Links
By homepage-building, 07:09

Proven Methods For Obtaining One-Way Links
by David Nicolosi   -

The road to success for most online businesses will be determined on how well they rank in the major search engines. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of applying a set of methods and procedures aimed at improving website rankings within search engine listings. Although the array of methods to increase placement in the search engine result pages (SERPs) is vast and often confusing to new webmasters, there is one process that can easily be applied by just about anyone and will make an immediate impact.

One-Way Links That Are Relevant
A one-way link is created when a website links directly to your website and you do not link directly back to that particular site. Google and other major search engines place a lot of emphasis on one-way links. Think of one-way links as a form of balloting system. Each link that points to your website from another website is casting a vote of support for your site. The more one-way links pointing to your website, the more votes of support you have. As the number of votes increases, so will your Google PageRank and subsequently your search engine placement. It's also important to keep in mind the relevancy of the links. A link is considered Relevant if it is coming from a source that contains similar content or services and can be categorized into the same category as your own. Links of higher relevancy are weighted heavier in search engine algorithms, so your goal will be to try to obtain as many one-way relevant links as possible.

Directory Submission
Submit your website to as many directories as possible. The two heavy hitters are
The Open Directory Project (ODP), more formally known as DMOZ, and Yahoo!. When submitting your website, be sure to read the rules for each directory carefully. It's important to place your website in the appropriate category that is most relevant to your website content.

Link Services
Perhaps the most effective method of achieving one-way links is to sign up for a link program, such as
Free Links Direct or Free Relevant Links. These sites maintain a system that provides a steady stream of links that increase month over month. It's important that one-way links come at a gradual pace as the search engine algorithms will view this as a natural progression. One mistake many users will make is to sign-up for a link directory where they go from 0 incoming links to 200 incoming links in one day only for that number to remain stagnant over the next few months. This is a huge mistake as you can possibly be penalized by the search engines. Websites need to show a steady progression of links to be the most effective. Services such as Free Links Direct are free to the user and provide one-way relevant links and a very solid service on which to start your link campaign on.

Article Submission
With any website, you get out what you put in. You'll want to promote your website as much as possible and get the word out that you're site is online and providing services, products, or information that internet users can't live without. A very effective way to spread the word about your website, while at the same time generating valuable one-way links, is to write articles and submit them to online article directories. There are literally thousands and thousands of websites that act as news agencies and article stores. Every time a website publishes your article, you increase your website exposure and extend your reach to more users. Perhaps just as valuable, you'll receive one-way links from each location the website is published. Manually locating and submitting articles can be tedious, to say the least. Fortunately there are some excellent free services that will make your job easier.
Article Sender provides a free service that will blast your article submissions to a very large number of article directories and websites.

Blogs
If you have not already done so, start a
Blog. Blogs are a great source of information for users and offer more avenues to increase exposure of your website while creating a one-way link. Blogs also get indexed by search engines, creating yet another avenue to help increase your one-way links.

Testimonials
Companies will often post user testimonials on their website as a marketing ploy to install trust into visitors so they can increase sales conversions. Find a site that provides a product or service you generally love and offer to write a testimonial in exchange for a link to your site. Chances are you'll find more than one website that will be more than happy to post your testimonial.

Of course, the best way to create one-way links is to let them come naturally. By providing quality content and a professional design, you'll be one step closer to achieving high search engine rankings as users link to you. Remember, you can't expect your site to be ranked in the top 10 overnight. Give yourself time, develop your content, keep things fresh and interesting, and always develop for the user. Success will come to those who focus on what's most important to their website; people.

Basics of the 'Liquid VS Fixed' Website Layout Debate in Modern Website Design
By homepage-building, 12:43

Basics of the 'Liquid VS Fixed' Website
Layout Debate in Modern Website Design

by Solomon Rothman   -

For the last 10 years the question of whether to use fixed or liquid layouts when designing a website has raged on in the web design world, with major design players on both sides of the proverbial fence. Recently though, as screen resolutions have increased dramatically, fixed layouts have all but replaces liquid, but there are still come major advantages to a liquid layout if designed properly.

Preliminaries

When I use the term "containing" elements, I'm referring to the columns or boxes that hold the text, images, and other content. Containing elements may have borders and background images, but are usually just the visual containers for the important content on the screen.

Fixed width layout In a fixed layout, the size of each "containing" element on the webpage is specified exactly. The page will not change when you resize your browser window. It will essentially look the same on any browser or computer.

Liquid layout In a liquid layout, the size of the containing elements changes depending on the browser size and user preferences. The container size increases when viewed at larger screen resolutions and decreases when the browser is resized.

Advantages and Disadvantages (pros and cons):

Fixed width layout

Pros * Guarantees an easy to read line length * Allow images to be placed exactly in relation to other elements and type sizes * Allows designer full control over how the page is displayed (as opposed to the user) * Allows for predictable default printing behavior. Cons * May create a type size that is not optimal * Takes control over page size and text size away from the user. * Doesn't take advantage of screen real estate and may produce large unused portions of window space that could potentially increase the amount of scrolling users have to do (this is especially true at higher resolutions)

Liquid layout:

Pros * Allows for maximum use of space or screen real-estate. Also allows the most control over sizing by the user, because a user can resize the website to their preferences. * Allows text size to be changeable by user preferences, making it easy for people with vision problems to increase or decrease the text size on the page while the layout adjusts around the increased size automatically. * When designed correctly, it sets your website look slightly apart from competitors, considering most websites use a fixed layout. Cons * If the screen-size becomes too large or too small it can produce unreadable text, or hard to read/scan line lengths * Can cause problems with *default page printing. (A separate print style sheet can be used allowing for perfect printing from any page despite a liquid layout, but if a separate style sheet for printing is not provided this con is valid) * As the website size changes, the image size to text proportion may create a less desirable look.

Modern Screen Resolutions and the Prevalence of Fixed Width Layouts

The problem facing layout design in modern web design is the huge variance of common screen resolutions among potential website visitors. The smallest acceptable and still common modern resolution is 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall. With the recent surge in wide-screen and large monitors resolutions, a screen width of 1280 pixels plus is also very common.

Q. So how do you design a site that looks good with both a 800 pixel width and a 1280 pixel width?

A. Most web designers don't, they use a fixed layout that's 800 pixels wide and call it good. With that said, I have personally designed and have seen some beautiful layouts that look good and are readable at both those resolution extremes. The specific details of these layouts are beyond the scope of this article, but most of the designs I've seen or created that successfully accomplish this task use multiple content columns in combination with "padding" that is defined as a percentage of the screen. So when the screen is small, the multiple columns are very close together, but when the screen is large the padding increases proportionally and the columns are spaced further apart.

Recommendations and Analysis

Most websites should probably be designed with a fixed or "semi" fixed layout. It guarantees readability and perfect presentation of content. With that said, if your website contains a large amount of text based content (more then 3-5 paragraphs per page) or if the website would greatly benefit from a non-standard design scheme use liquid.

If you're still not sure, choose fixed. A fixed layout is easy to maintain, and assures readability by all users and is easier for a web designer to code perfectly. A poorly done liquid layout will cause more problems then it will fix and annoy potential users. For example, one of my personal pet peeves is when a designer uses a single column liquid layout. My personal computer workstation consists of two monitors a 19 inch, and a 17 inch widescreen. When a website is designed with a single liquid column the width of the page usually is way too wide for easy reading, so I have to manually adjust the window size.

Choosing Your Website Design, A "Need To Know" Sketch
by Dalvin Rumsey

You have a company and want to establish an online presence? Then you'll need to learn what to look for when working on probably the most important aspect, the website design.

When considering a website design there is one rule of thumb that you have to have in mind, simple is better. You don't want to get you visitors lost with a too complex layout, or with a too complex website design. It's also very important to understand the market and how you want your company to be perceived. The design of your website will leave an impression to your visitors, make sure it's the right one.

Your company and website will have to have a logo. As many colors as you wish can be used in the logo design but a maximum of four are recommended to make the printing on business cards easier and inexpensive.

Think if entertaining the website visitors improve the success of your website, by entertaining I mean moving objects or pictures, floating text etc. This decision depends on your audience and on the purpose of the website. There are a lot of tools that can be used on your website, the hard part is choosing the ones that fit with the audience and goal of your website. Flash is one example of a commonly misused tool, while a flash website design or layout might be cool, it might not be best for your website goals.

You'll have to be careful when choosing the person that will design your website, you might get along a lot of designers that claim to be qualified but with no real experience, you should ask to see some examples of previous work. You should also ask your website designer about the following: possibility to manually write HTML code, if he can work with JavaScript or such languages, create and optimize META-tags for search engines, create forms and other interactive content and if he can work with websites in a secure environment. Your website might not need all these features, but any decent website designer should have these skills. Lacking any of those skills might mean that they are not sufficiently qualified.

If you want a professional looking website design you'll have to hire a good designer that will work with you on the website from start to finish and will also be available if you'll need changes or updates to your site in the future.

by Purva Mewar  -

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a very crucial technique or process for people who depend on their websites to bring them business. Or are trying to do so. Merely having an online presence by way of a website doesn't serve any purpose if various pages of the website are not optimized with search engines in mind.

The higher the position, the better. Higher postion will ensure higher traffic to the site, more visitors, means more sales.

Optimizing is done with the help of key phrases. Key phrases are what people generally type in Search Engine while looking for a particular topic.

Search engine optimization can be learnt online from various sites dedicated to it. these sites give you free access and lessons about SEO. SEO can be learnt by anybody privided he is willing to have the patience to learn it. SEO doesn't require any formal eucational background.

SEO - Search Engine Optimization: Mastering The Google Dance And The Use Of Page Rank
By homepage-building, 00:35

I´m better than You !

SEO - Search Engine Optimization:
Mastering the Google Dance and the Use of Google Page Rank

by Matt Jackson  -

The update of the Google index is often referred to as the Google dance. For several days when Google is updating their index to include new pages and update their algorithms, search results almost seem to take on a life of their own. High positioned sites have been known to drop into near obscurity while the lesser-judged sites suddenly find themselves careering towards dizzy heights in the rankings. While this phenomenon is usually relatively short lived, lasting only two or three days, many webmasters take it to be a sign of things to come during the next major update.

Spurious Search Engine Results

Google uses a number of patented algorithms to determine the exact ranking of every indexed website. They also attempt to index as many websites and pages as they can possibly find. In order to do this they utilize tens of thousands of different hosts and over a dozen data centers. It is impossible for Google to update each and every one of these at the same time and it is also impossible for them to alternate between using old data and the new updated data. This leads to some potentially skewed results in their listings. However, these results are not usually indicative of future rankings.

Relying Too Heavily On Toolbar PR

The problem for many webmasters is an over reliance on the toolbar page rank. This is a problem for several reasons. Page rank isn't the be all and end all of search engine rankings. It is used to determine the weight of an inbound link, meaning that a link from a page with a PR5 is much better than a link from a page with PR2. However, having a PR6 won't necessarily mean that your site will list above all the PR4 sites on the web.

Relevancy Of Website Content

The logic is fairly simple. The PR of your site is a numerical value determined by numerous factors including the number of inbound links. In no way can this numerical ranking indicate the relevance of your website content when looking at a particular search term. Having a PR6 website does not necessarily mean that your site bears more relevance to a particular term than another website with a PR2. So, as well as the PR of your website, Google must also consider the topic and the content of your site and how relevant this is to the relevant search term.

Toolbar PR Compared To Live PR

Another problem is that the toolbar PR is only updated every three months or so, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. While you're seeing that your site only has a PR2 it could be that it actually has a PR closer to 5. Your site will receive the credit from this "live" PR in preference to that of the toolbar PR so don't panic.

A Final Word On The Google Dance

During the time the Google dance is being completed, the servers located around different data centers are upgrading and updating one at a time. This is why some sites will show spurious results and why some webmasters benefit for a day or two while others lose out. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to prevent this Google phenomenon and there is nothing you can do to hurry the process up. All that is left is to sit back and watch in amazement as the Google index dances.

The Newest Features of Google Sitemaps
by Philip Nicosia  -

Google has announced the addition of some truly useful features to make Google Sitemaps an even better tool for the web. They've given their site a facelift and made it easier to navigate. They asked for feedback and they listened. Hopefully, the result is something everyone will love.

A feature that many webmasters will be happy to know about is the notification of violations. No longer will they be left in the dark about what is happening. They will know if they have violated the webmaster guidelines and why.

The rules are pretty simple. Create your site that is truly helpful to your users and avoid doing naughty things just to increase your ranking. Linking to bad sites, hidden texts or links, installing viruses, trojans or other "badware" are just a few of the reasons why your URL will not be included in any Google index.

You don't even need to look far to know if you have a violation. Google notifies you directly on the summary page of your account. They also place a link to webmaster's guidelines so you can double check that your site is once again in proper form to be included in Google's index - this is the second new feature.

Google does not want to exclude any sites that are good. It is possible that the violations were unintentional. It may even be that the webmasters truly have overlooked some items on their site. Google says clean it up and get the chance to be re-included.

Re-inclusion is absolutely simple and easy. Once you see the violation notification, check what needs to be fixed. Correct the item that Google felt is a violation of their rules. Now all you need to do is click on the request reinclusion link on your summary page, or the link at the Google Sitemap home page, and fill out the form. Just don't forget that you don't need to request reinclusion if you haven't received a violation.

If you're a new webmaster and need a helping hand, Google has a help center for webmasters. It has all the information you need to know about Google Sitemaps. If you have questions about Googlebot, crawling, indexing, ranking and the like, this is the place to go. If the answer you're looking for isn't there, no worries; the Google Sitemaps community is there to interact with as well.

By the way, not everybody by the way receives a notification of violation. Google has chosen not to notify certain webmasters of their penalty in certain cases. For example, they will not notify a spammer that he's been caught. Doing so will only alert him that they have caught on to his game and possibly trigger his making even sneakier ways to get in.

On the whole, these improvements are wonderful additions and long overdue. Google really wants to improve their services and the best way is for people to keep using their products and giving feedback. The team behind Google is definitely listening.

Buying expired domains for PR does it still work?
By homepage-building, 15:16

Buying expired domains for PR does it still work?
by noel bautista  -

I've done some experiments over the past few months about expiring domains with PR to see if it is worth your while to catch these expired and deleted domains.

My idea why I would like to use expired domains is the notion that old domains are favored than new domains, and to get instant PR.

So I set out to find deleted domains with PR that I can register. One characteristic of domains I was looking for was that the domain still had a PR, and it was still listed in google.

I won't be mentioning the actual domains here as I need to control the results and prevent people from making backlinks to these domains.

I registered about 4 domains, some have PR2 and PR3. Some have a few pages indexed, some have a few thousand. I also bought a couple of new domains for my new projects.

I found out that google rarely visits these domains so I need to prime it but with some fresh backlinks. After creating some backlinks to these domains, two domains eventually lost their PR. These two domains have only a few pages indexed in google. In one domain, I did a 301 permanent redirect to the new index page. This domain retained its PR. One key difference this domain has compared to the other two is that this domain has thousands of pages indexed in google.

In another domain, I did a 301 and redirect it to a fresh new domain. The result is that the new domain got indexed faster and more pages were indexed compared to another new domain I registered at the same time. However, PR was down to 0.

There is also a case where I did a 301 redirect from an old deleted domain with PR and never got any benefit from it.

In conclusion, there is still conflicting results on whether buying deleted/expired domains. Some works, some don't. However, what seem to work is that...

a. Old delete domains does contain traffic from existing backlinks. If the old domain has tons of backlinks, it still does generate some traffic.

b. Other search engines such as yahoo and msn do not seem to have an biases against expired/deleted domains.

Tips for Search Engine Optimization
By homepage-building, 00:30

Tips for Search Engine Optimization
by S. Housley  --

Not only do you have just a few seconds to grab the attention of the web visitor, content developers must perform well within search engine searches so they are "found"when web surfers search on related keywords or phrases. In order to perform well, a website must have traffic. Decent traffic will result if a website ranks well in search engines, that is why strong placement in search engines for critical keywords and phrases is essential.

When struggling with search engine optimization just go back to the basics. What do search engines want? Search engines want to return search results, that are relevant and useful to the searcher. Webmasters can help search engines discern what keywords or phrases their site relates to.

Search Engine Optimization Dos

1. CSS - Cascading Style Sheets. Use header tags and cascading style sheets in your website design. Many search engines value H1 and H2 tags more than others. The assumption is that header tags are used to highlight the most important items or themes that appear on a page. By using header tags, webmasters can bullet those keywords or phrases they deem to be most important. The CSS file will help your site load quickly and provide a consistent look and feel throughout the website.

2. Titles. A website is the collection of webpages under a single domain. A webpage refers to a specific page within a website. Unique page titles throughout a website is important. Websites typically contain many webpages and using unique titles on webpages will help highlight different key phrases while uniting all the website content in a single theme.

3. Related Links. Links from related or relevant sites are more important than generic links from unrelated websites. Links are seen as "votes" of quality content. Search engines weigh links from websites that contain related or similar content more importantly, than links from unrelated websites. Work to obtain relevant quality links from related or authority websites.

4. Anchor Text. Vary anchor text. Use a variety of phrases to link to a site. Using different anchor text to link to a website is seen by search engines as "natural" linking. Search engines use the anchor text of a websites incoming link as part of their algorithm to determine a websites theme.

5. Website Copy. A minimum of 200 words of copy is suggested for each web page. In order to spider a site a search engine must have sufficient copy to spider. Less does not necessarily mean more, when it comes to search engine ranking. In general try to keep copy "above the fold", so that visitors don't have to scroll. Copy above the fold is usually sufficient to determine the context of the webpage.

6. Fresh Content. Keep it fresh. Search engines take notice of how frequently content is updated or added. Search engines spider websites that update content on a frequent basis at regular intervals. Add new content or webpages daily or weekly to increase a search engine spider's frequency.

7. Consistent. Provide quality, consistent, fresh content. Consistent related content is critical to encouraging both visitors and search engines to return. Providing consistent quality content encourages links which will increase a websites popularity.

8. Themed. Relate the contents of a website by a single theme. Uniting content using contextual words will help websites rank well for less critical but very targeted related keywords and phrases.

Search Engine Optimization Don'ts

1. Keyword Stuffing. Don't stuff web pages with keywords that is similar to or the same as the webpages background color. Most search engines have ways to detect keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing will likely result in a search engine ban.

2. Cloaking. Cloaking is when the website identifies the IP address of a search engine spider and feeds the spider content that it is not really on the page. Essentially the search engine sees optimized content that is not currently on the web page that it is spidered. It is difficult for search engines to detect cloaking, but if a site is banned or cloaking it is very difficult to convince a search engine to relist the content.

3. Don't Sacrifice Quality. Don't sacrifice quality for optimization. While search engine optimization is important, it is equally important that the content on a webpage should make sense. Placing well in search engines at the expense of a quality professional image with decent web copy, will not usually result in sales. It is a matter of striking a balance.

4. Spam. Not much to be said about this one, don't spam. Don't spam search engines, don't conduct email spam campaigns, and don't spam forums. Being labeled a spammer is a hard reputation to shed.

A website is an important part of a business, search engine optimization is a business investment and requires attention and effort in order to succeed. Website creation is more than just pretty images and an attractive design. In order to "sell" your product or service your information, your site must be found. Therefore it is imperative that search engine content is optimized for search engine placement.

W3C Website Compliance
By homepage-building, 21:50

W3C Website Compliance
by JTB Studios  -

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international consortium where standards are developed for the World Wide Web. These standards and protocols have been established to ensure long-term growth for the web and to maintain a certain level of conformity throughout the web design and development community.

There is a clear divide within the web development industry in relation to the standards that W3C imposes and the limitations that it presents on the designers, developers and users. A great deal of people have chosen to disregard the standards altogether. In most cases the best that can be done is to always take W3C compliance into account in both the design and development process to either fully eliminate or at least minimise the errors of a web site.

Style sheets can sometimes be adjusted to compensate for some browser default presentation of images. However by trying to work towards minimising errors and W3C validation, you may need to sacrifice certain functions or design aspects or even to risk having some people unable to properly view your web site.

Web sites that are compliant

http://www.jtbstudios.com.au

Web sites that are not compliant

We recommend that you test some sites using http://validator.w3.org

Benefits

If your web site is W3C compliant, the "W3C Compliant" badge may be displayed on any page that validates. Displaying the W3C compliant badge also shows your customers that careful consideration has been applied to W3C standards when developing your web site. Some people may view this as an indication of how you do business.

Limitations

Having W3C compliance takes away backwards compatibility with some browsers such as, Netscape 4.X and Mozilla Firefox. Depending on browser settings some of your customers may have difficulty viewing certain functions of your site. Often you will find that W3C compliant web sites pose limitations towards certain browsers. This includes issues with flash banners. Although this can be overcome by manipulating code programming, you need to be aware of the limitations surrounding this.

If you insist on W3C compliance then the creation of a web site should be done using current data relating to the usage of browsers to ensure that your web site is compatible with the most popular and used browser.

Why Add User Reviews to Your Website?
By homepage-building, 20:44

Why Add User Reviews to Your Website?
by Tim Mousel  -

Before purchasing a product or using a service most shoppers will do research to find the best quality or best priced item. In addition to comparing price, shoppers will seek out the opinions of others. Offering reviews on your website has many benefits for you and your visitors. Some of the top websites on the internet have prominent review features. Examples include amazon.com, pricegrabber.com, shopping.com, epinions.com, yahoo.com and the list goes on and on.

Top Five Reasons to Add Reviews to Your Site:

1. Increase sales. If you offer a product or service, other user reviews can help increase sales. People find comfort in knowing that others have used the product with good results. It has the same selling power as a well written testimonial.

2. Search engines love original unique content. Each user review adds original content to your website and will often be keyword rich for your product or service.

3. Gets your users involved and active on your site. Someone considering purchasing a product on your site will check back frequently to read new reviews which will help in the decision making process.

4. Many sites offering reviews have a feature which allows the user to notify their friends about a specific product. Now your users are marketing for you!

5. Increase ancillary income by selling ad space and serving target ads, such as those offered by Google AdSense. If a user is interested in purchasing a digital camera and an add is next to the reviews displaying digital cameras, you have the opportunity of generating the income from that user clicking on that ad.

Adding this feature has too many positive benefits to ignore. The cost for such a feature is very low compared to all that can be gained. More information is available at Tim Mousel´s Homepage Review-Script.com

The Newest Features of Google Sitemaps

The Rich Jerk - How to make Tons of Cash with the Internet!

The Newest Features of Google Sitemaps
by Philip Nicosia

The team behind Google is definitely listening.

http://www.XML-Sitemaps.com  provides a free Google site map generator which will also produce a Yahoo site map and HTML site map for webmasters.

Creating Articles Around Niche Subjects For Profit
By homepage-building, 22:44

Creating Articles Around Niche Subjects For Profit
by Joshua Kilpatrick

Choosing a good niche subject to base your website around is one of the most important aspects of making money off of your articles. This will give you a foundation to build from and you can target one general audience with a pack of keywords that they are most likely to be searching for. You should take each one of these keywords and use it for the basis of one article on each page. This way, even though you are targeting one specific subject, you will be sure to interest a wide variety of people in that one niche. They may also find other pages that interest them, which will keep them returning to your site to learn new information about the niche subject.

The best way to find keywords for your niche subject is to use a keyword software program and type in the word that is the subject of your niche. This will generate a list of keywords or phrases that contain your niche and will also show you approximately how many people search for each word or phrase. Some software programs may also tell you how many sites are out there to compete with for each word or phrase (this will help you know if those sites are worth competing with for the number of searches out there). You then deicide which of these would be most profitable by determining which have the least amount of competitors, so that you have a chance at making it to the first or second page of search engine results, but that also have a decent amount of people looking for that keyword or phrase each month. These will be the keywords or phrases that you will base the pages of your niche site on.

If there are a number of topics that you like, pick the one that you feel would be easiest to start with and then, once that site is built and generating some revenue, you can start another site. The most profitable website marketers, who use their talent of finding niches and combining that with good site content and a handful of affiliate links, have a good amount and variety of niche sites that they have started. You are never limited in what you can do with niche website marketing, unless you find out that you do not have the marketing skills or the needed funding to make it happen. Otherwise, the sky is the limit!

404 Error Pages and Search Engine Optimization
By homepage-building, 06:45

404 Error Pages and Search Engine Optimization
by Matt Foster

Utilizing descriptive file naming is essential to any quality search engine optimization project. But what about the old file names, which no longer exist? The use of a 404 error page is recommended to avoid search engines finding broken links and non-existent pages.

But what is a 404 error page? To answer this, we must first understand what a 404 error is. A 404 DNS error is commonly known as a File Not Found error. This is what you see when you type in a URL that does not exist into your browser's address bar. Usually, the server returns something akin to 404 - File Not Found. If a search engine comes across such an error, it can have a negative impact on your search engine visibility. The solution to this is the creation of a custom error page, usually named 404.htm. When this page is extant on the server, instead of a File Not Found error being returned, the 404.htm file is returned. It can be thought of as a "catch-all" page, that is displayed when no file corresponding to the file called upon in the address bar exists.

Most good seo's will implement what is known as descriptive file naming as part of a search engine optimization project. In a nutshell, descriptive file naming is simply the naming of HTML files according to the content of that file. Fore example, let's say you own a carwash in Austin, Texas. You have a page which itemizes your various services and their corresponding prices. Currently, the page is named services.htm. After search engine optimization, this page is renamed to something like austin-carwash-services.htm, utilizing a descriptive file naming methodology. The problem is that search engines may have already indexed the services.htm page, or third party (external) web sites may link to the services.htm page. Obviously, you don't want people using these links to reach a non-existent page, and likewise you don't want search engines linking to it or finding non-existent pages. The 404.htm page is also useful in the event external links or user inputs contain typographical errors.

Installing a 404.htm file on the server, and enabling custom error pages in your control panel (if necessary), solves the problem. Any user who clicks on a link to the old services.htm page reaches the 404.htm page instead of receiving a 404 DNS error. Search engines do the same thing. This ensures that no user is left stranded in "no man's land", and increases web site "stickiness".

Critical Elements of a 404 Error Page

Remembering that the 404.htm file will be encountered any time a 404 error would otherwise be returned, it is intuitive that the page must contain generic content, related to the overall theme of the site, as opposed to page-specific content. What this means is that creating a 404.htm file, in the example above, solely for the missing page services.htm, would be a mistake. For example, if you created your 404.htm file to be a mirror of the old services.htm file, if someone linked to another non-existent page of your site, for example an about us page named about.htm which has been renamed, they would land on the 404.htm page containing service information. This would likely lead to confusion on the part of the user. As such, building a 404.htm page with generic information is best practice.

A 404.htm page should hold the same "look and feel" as the rest of the site. Usually, this would mean a banner image with navigation bar, with an area for page-specific body content. Using the CSS or web site page template, create the 404.htm page to contain body text which informs the user of the non-existence of the desired page, and clearly directs the user to important areas of the web site.

So, at a minimum, the 404.htm page would contain the following:

1) Same look and feel as the rest of the site

2) Error message, such as "The page entered was not found on our server. Please try one of the links below to find what you are looking for."

3) Have clearly marked links to the following: Home Page, Site Map, and Contact page.

Many organizations may also wish to include a search box, so that the stranded user could search for the desired information right from the 404 error page.

Things to Avoid in a 404 Error Page

As previously stated, avoid the use of page-specific information on a 404 error page. Make sure the page contains general information with links as to how to get home, get to the site map, and contact the company.

The use of a 404.htm error page that is simply a mirror of the home page can be confusing and lead to a user abandoning the site. This practice should be avoided.

The use of a javascript or other redirect to the home page, even with a delay informing the user of the impending redirect, should be avoided. Not only does this lead to the problem mentioned above, but other undesired effects can occur. For example, check out this post from www.cre8asiteforums.com:

"Personally think it's a bit dangerous to have a 404 page linked to the homepage.

"We launched a site with that recently, something was a bit wrong with the homepage, and something was returning a 404, so it created an endless loop that knackered the server and caused the site to be horrendously slow. Not good...."

This is an example of something gone horribly wrong using a 404 page to redirect to another page.

Summary

The use of a 404.htm custom error page is recommended for both search engine optimization and user friendliness. Following the guidelines herein will ensure that both your users and search engines can find the relevant content for which they are looking.

7 Highly Effective Web Techniques For Free Traffic Generation
By Daniel Russo

We all know that traffic is the most essential thing for a successful Internet business company. There are a lot of reliable ways to jumpstart your traffic flows, though most of them would cost some money. In this article I'd like to tell you about my favorite web promotion tactics, which wouldn't cost you a single cent. Moreover, some of them will save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. The first tactic alone can generate you over $2,000 equivalent of free targeted traffic.

Well, here are the seven surefire technics capable of skyrocketing your traffic starting from today.

1) Free Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising That Works

The Adwords by Google, Yahoo's Overture and many other PPC search engines provide great sources of targeted Internet. They are very truly popular among web marketers. However, as the PPC search engine managers wish to expand their customer base so they need to convince people like you that pay per click advertising really works.

Here are the good news, there are dozens of PPC search engines who will give you up to $100 in free credits to prove that pay per click advertising will work for you. To claim your credits all you need do is visit the various engines and web directories and sign-up. There are no catches and it won't cost you anything except your time.

It couldn't be simpler to obtain such free PPC advertising. The table at this page: http://www.affiliated-business.com/promotion/Pay-Per-Click5.html lists over 60 Pay Per Click Search Engines offering in excess of $2,000 of free web promotion credits. One after another select the PPC search engines form the list, click on the links to open the corresponding sign-up pages and sign up for your free adverising accounts.

2) Use Profitable Keywords Or Keyword Niches For Your Site's Content

Generally, internet users use search engines to find what they are looking for. Search engines in return use keyword rankings to give away relevant search results. If you'd like your site to appear at the top lines of search engine results, you must use proper keywords and keyword phrases.

Try to employ the most profitable (of higher demand) keywords at your site content. You could write your own content or you could hire someone to do it for you. If you're writing content on yourself you have to make it more entertaining as well as informative.

In doing so, you can get high rankings in search engine results and strong incoming traffic without any costs.

3) Exchange Links With Partner Sites

Another great idea is trading links with partner (or even competitor) sites. This works well especially when both sites feature the same niche.

Exchanging or trading links with other sites, both of them could benefit. When one site features another sites link, they will provide one another with the traffic they both generate.

The efforts are doubly beneficial because it seems like both sides are working to generate doubly enhanced traffic. The more links exchanged with more sites the more traffic could be expected.

And again, you don't have to spend a cent. All you have to do is to communicate to another webmaster and to reach with him an agreement.

4) Write Articles And Publish Them Across The Internet

There are a lot of sites that offer free submission and posting of your articles. You'd better to s ubmit articles to sites containing the same subject that your site deals in. If you sell computers write press releases and articles about computers and computer parts. Try to provide helpful tips guides and good advice. Writing articles that contain good service and knowledge would bring the necessary mileage your traffic flow needs.

When people find in your article something of interest, you have good chances of following the track by finding out where the article originated. It lasts for you just to a ttach a brief description of your site or service at the end of the article and to include a link.

5) Join Forums, Blogs And Other Online Communities

You can take advantage of online forums, blogs and web communities. The great thing about forums and online communities is that you can target a certain group that fits the certain demographic that you are looking for. You can discuss about lots of things about the goodsor services that you represent or offer.

With online communities and forums you can build a reputation for your company. You must capture the market niche you represent and show your expertise and credibility. When you created a good foundation for your site, people will trust you and your web business. Your customers will pass on their trust and credibility to many people all over the Internet. Traffic will certainly increase because they know that you can provide what they need.

6) Offer Newsletters Or eZines

You can also make use of newsletters. Provide people with a catalog of your products and interesting useful articles. If your texts are really interesting and entertaining, more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it to other people. The more people who signs up for your newsletter, the more people there will be willing to visit your site. So, if you arouse the curiosity of your customers they would be pushed to help you growing your traffic.

7) Use Advantages Of Viral Marketing

Viral marketing is a promotional method that allows you to spread the word about your company and product without any costs. All it takes is to bring a great idea, a good addicting game, a funny story; many ideas are still out there. Create a gossip or a buzz, many web projects are advertised by using scandals and rumors to make them more popular.

Also you can provide your web site visitors with content they wouldn't read anywhere else. People will stay longer at your web site to read the original content. With this method, people get infected with the creativity and entertainment of the website content and they will pass it on to many people.

Each of the above mentioned methods can drive streams of free traffic to your website. All it takes is a bit of effort and extended man hours. Learn all you can about the techniques depicted here and you will soon have a site with a great traffic flow without the usual costs that come with it.

This type of Website can make you a Fortune with Google Adsense
By homepage-building, 13:15

This type of Website can make you a Fortune with Adsense
By Mark Bellinger

It’s a fact that there are many Internet Entrepreneurs who are making in excess of $25,000 a month and some are making more than $100,000 every month from Google's Adsense program.

However, it’s also a fact that some Adsense publishers are struggling to make the minimum required to trigger a monthly payment of only $100.

Just in case you didn't know, Adsense is a program offered by Google that allows anyone with a website, or who is going to publish a website, the facility to publish Google Ads from which you (the website owner) receive a portion of the advertiser’s payment every time a site visitor clicks on one of those Google Ads on your site.

So therefore, the more the advertiser pays for their ad to be shown on a particular site, the more the publisher receives when a site visitor clicks on that ad.

Most webmasters who have Adsense ads on their sites know all about blending the ads into their site’s theme, choosing the right size ads and positioning the ads optimally.

Google’s own heatmap suggests where to place your ads to get the most clicks and therefore maximize your adsense earnings.

However, despite having done all of the above, some sites will continue to have much higher adsense earnings than others.

This can, of course, be attributed to many variables including the following;

Traffic

The site with more traffic should out perform the site with less traffic, but this is not always the case.

The following factors can influence this.

The number of Ad Blocks on the site

The more adsense ads there are on a web page the less value
each ad’s click will generate, ie it seems that the advertising revenue becomes diluted as the number of ads increases

Google’s Smart Pricing

Google’s smart pricing influences the amount of revenue paid to the publisher

The Advertiser’s advertising Budget

The amount the advertiser is willing to pay to have his ads published on your site will also influence the amount of your portion of his advertising fee.

Industry – Niche Market

This is a crucial factor in determining Adsense revenue.

As you can well imagine, a website about “Mating Habits of the North Sea Clam” will not have as many advertisers clamoring to get their ads on that site as a site that is all about “Website Hosting” will, for example.

What this means is that an advertiser wishing to have an adsense presence on the former site will have to pay far less for top keywords than advertisers on the latter.

As you can see the more competitive a market or industry is, the more advertisers are willing to pay for their adsense adverts.

Some sites regularly generate more than a dollar a click whereas others can only muster $0.01 per click at best.

Content

Bearing in mind the above point, it follows that the content on your site will directly influence the type of ads you’ll receive via Google’s adsense script.

So if your content is all about red widgets, Google’s adsense script will place ads from red widget advertisers on your site, provided advertisers in this market do in fact exist.

Conversely if your content is geared towards web design you can be rest assured that there are many advertisers paying good money to have their web design adsense ads published.

Site Popularity

It’s also fairly obvious that advertisers would be willing to pay more to have their ads placed on high profile sites than those that aren’t as popular.

Now to the crux of this article…

What type of Website will generate killer dollars from Google’s Adsense?

Whilst all of the above are important to make the big dollars from Adsense, an astute internet entrepreneur would build a site that simply targets high paying Adsense advertisers and simultaneously attracts large numbers of targeted site visitors.

Sounds simple enough but before you rush off to build your ‘Site made for Adsense’ just remember that a site stuffed with the highest paying keywords will not only be frowned upon by Google but will hold no interest for your site visitors and consequently your site’s popularity and success will be around zero.

The Heavily-Optimised SEO Article As Legitimate Search Engine Doorway Page
By homepage-building, 22:53

The Rich Jerk - How to make Tons of Cash with the Internet!

The Heavily-Optimised SEO Article As Legitimate Search Engine Doorway Page
by Bill Kruse.

The doorway page, the satellite page, the channeling page, the information page, the landing page, the entry page, the bridge page..., whatever you call them they've long been considered the bete noir of seo or search engine optimisation. Everyone's got their own definition but all of them embrace roughly the same principle, a heavily optimised keyword or keyword phrase-riddled page built solely to attract the search engines that then links back to a main web site.

Some of these will be made up of pure and absolute nonsense bar the top paragraph, that will be proper English with a link back to the main site using the keyword or key phrase as anchor text in the backlink or IBL (Inbound Back Link). The same keyword or phrase will similarly appear in the page's title tag, the meta description tag and the header or H1 tag, while the rest of the page will be utter gobbledegook, machine-generated Babel spam with the keyword or key phrase sprinkled randomly through the content just to a density which will appeal to the search engines.

Others will be made up entirely of this machine-generated keyword or phrase riddled spam and will automatically redirect through use of javascript or a meta-refresh to a completely different site. SEO techniques like this, when (not if) discovered will inevitably suffer some kind of search engine penalty if not necessarily an outright ban.

Traditionally it will characteristically also be a page that stands alone outside the main body of a site, existing on it's own as an individual entity. It will have no incoming (IBL) links from the site; any that it does have will probably be coming from series of similar pages, all created with the same aim in mind, to rank highly in all or a particular engine for a particular specific search term.

If you do a search for doorway page in Google amazingly there are still adverts for companies who openly announce their dubious expertise in this frowned upon SEO practice despite the very highly-publicised decision by Google to ban BMW for, among other things, their blatant use of this forbidden SEO technique.

Perhaps a better approach would be to note that now, though, you can legitimately use this basic optimisation technique by making each page into an article and submitting it to an article distribution site. No-one seems to have realised yet, or if they have they haven't drawn any particular attention to it, that while using doorway pages is still very much a Black Hat SEO technique, one that can and has been known to get sites banned, you can exercise good White Hat SEO by creating articles that perform exactly the same SEO function as a doorway page and no-one will complain or even adversely comment. It seems that, in the eyes of the engines, if you hang the label "article" on a certain kind of doorway page it then becomes perfectly acceptable to all.

For instance, is this article linked to from my site? No it is not. Is this article heavily optimised with keywords related to SEO and key phrases related to search engine optimisation? Indeed it is. It fulfils, then, at least some of the criteria exponents of so-called "Ethical SEO" would use to label it as search engine spam, but manifestly, in commenting on the phenomenon it is itself a part of, it isn't spam at all, more (I believe myself) an example of social commentary on the search engine optimisation or SEO industry.

So then, is this article itself a doorway page? Like so much in search engine optimisation, that really depends on your own individual point of view. My advice? Look not at what I say I do, look instead at what results from what I do - if I have a high-ranking stand-alone page for popular SEO keywords with a link back to my main site from it, one that can not be banned for being a doorway page because it is in fact an article that's about doorway pages, what will the consequences actually be?

Strange, Grasshopper, strange are the ways of the SEO!

"Big" Bill Kruse occasionally takes time out from philosophical debate to offer SEO Services from his site at Kruse Internet Services.

5 Good Reasons to use Web Site Templates
By homepage-building, 21:58

5 good reasons to use website templates
by Trevor Sadowski.

Professionally designed site

First appearances are everything, this is especially so on the internet. If your site looks amateurish then it is more than likely that someone will press the back button on their browser before they even read your home page, let alone buy anything from you.

Web site templates get round this problem as they are designed by professionals who are creating web sites every day. This means that graphics will be well designed and load quickly when people visit your site. The basic design of the site will have been tested with several browsers to ensure compatibility and the navigation system will be functional.

Cost

A web site template costs between $20 - $70, compare this to a design cost from scratch of about $500 from a web site designer and you can see that you can make substantial savings by opting for the do it yourself approach.

A template is a great starting point for a good looking, well designed site. All you need are some basic editing skills and appropriate software.

Speed

Quite simply editing a partially completed web site is much quicker than creating a site from scratch. You avoid problems such as creating navigation menus and optimising graphics for fast loading of web pages. It typically takes a web designer 5 - 15 days to produce a high quality site.

Set structure

A lot of time can be wasted in deciding on the layout of a site. Using a template helps overcome design issues and enables you to focus purely on content. That way you can achieve a more polished product.

Universal language

Most web site templates are available either as basic HTML files or as more sophisticated flash sites. The more professional retailers will give you both versions.

This means that if you are working to a budget then you could use a low cost HTML editor to get by or, if you wanted your visitors to have a more involved experience, then you could invest in premium products from Macromedia, Adobe or Microsoft that support most of the features you could ever wish to add to your site.

Trevor Sadowski has been building web sites for a couple of years now and has tried various methods to speed up the process.

In order to help other webmasters Trevor has created a site that offers help and advice on how to build a web site as well as offering free and premium templates of the best quality, free graphics, buttons and other web site components.

Search Engine Optimisation: How Accurate are Keyword Tools?
By homepage-building, 22:52

Search Engine Optimisation: How Accurate are Keyword Tools?
by David Touri

In search engine optimisation ( SEO ), it is a crucial element to select the right keywords when optimising a website. The obvious reason being, if you have keywords with no search volume, you will not receive any traffic. Secondly, if you have keywords that are too competitive, you will find it very difficult (almost impossible) to win high ranks. So how do we find the in between balance for both obstacles? This is where keyword tools would come into place, but how accurate are they?

To start, the main keyword research tools that are found on the market today are Wordtracker, Overture Keyword Tool and Trellian Keyword Discovery. Now I bet many of you are pulling your hair out over which keywords are going to be suitable for optimisation. What makes it probably even more stressful is the varying results between the three different keyword tools i.e. one keyword tool may show a particular keyword to be very good, while another tool may suggest a whole different result for the same keyword. Well stop stressing right now! The truth is that we don't really know how accurate these keyword tools are and we should only use their search volume figures as an indication as to whether a keyword is popular amongst search engine users.

Let's say a keyword phrase, "dog products", has a search volume of 5,000 searches per month on the Overture Keyword Tool. To make an assumption that "dog products" is a good keyword for optimisation, based ONLY on the Overture figure, would be a very bad assumption. However, it gives us a rough idea of the search volume for that particular keyword. The next step would be to use Wordtracker or Keyword Discovery to see if a similar amount of search volume is present for "dog products" (remember to convert searches for each tool to a common time frame i.e. monthly or daily). If we have a very low search volume in BOTH Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery, then I would be very skeptical about using "dog products" for optimisation. The whole idea is to get at least two of the three keyword tools to reflect reasonable / high search volumes before considering that keyword to be suitable for optimisation. If you have all three keyword tools returning reasonable / high search volumes for "dog products", then the chances are that this keyword is reasonable / high in search volume and definitely worth considering for optimisation.

Once a good set of keywords have been agreed upon through the use of the keyword tools, you should then focus on the keywords that have a low / reasonable amount of competing web pages. There is no point trying to compete for a keyword that has 1,000,000 web pages in competition for it. If you are good at SEO then you could achieve high ranks for that keyword, but it would require a lot of time and investment which could be spent on better things. The lower the competition is, then the more chance of achieving higher ranks.

To recap, there is no indication to say that keyword tools are 100% accurate. Whilst the reseller of the tool may suggest otherwise, I highly doubt it. The results should be taken like a "grain of salt" as they are only useful to give you an idea as to what the search volume might be like for a particular keyword (high, moderate or low). With each tool obtaining its results using different algorithms, in some cases their results will not support each other. Provided you use two of the keyword tools to investigate the search volume for keywords, you should be able to make a good decision as to whether a keyword might be worth optimising for. With that in mind, it would also be wise to use your common sense to determine if a keyword is one that YOU would actually use in a search. Otherwise, what would be the point of optimisation in the first place?

How to deal with spelling variations in search engine optimization

How to deal with spelling variations in search engine optimization  ( optimisation )
by Deepak Sharma

English is replete with variations

English language has come a long way on its path to evolution, and it still evolving. The language, though originated in Anglo-Saxon regions has crossed geographical, cultural and political boundaries, and has come to be regarded as a language of common understanding across the globe. So, it is not very surprising that plenty of variations has found their place in English language in terms of usage, vocabulary and spellings.

Narrowing the discussion to spelling variations here in this article, there exists more than one way to spell certain words. None of these ways could be termed as wrong, but they are at best linguistic habits of people hailing from a particular of the part of the globe.

For example, words like colour, optimisation, cheque, enrolment, etc. can give an American visitor of your site an impression that these words are misspelled. This precisely because Americans do not spelled certain words the way they are spelled in UK or Australian or International version of English.

The misspelled words by users

Apart from the variations in English spellings, this is not hard to find that users while searching for a particular stuff in search engines type wrong spellings. On account of this all the web sites that contain the right spellings do not get listed. Instead those web sites containing the wrongly spelled words come on the search pages. The situation of this kind is pathetic as the web sites conforming to the right way of spelling get punished for the ironic fault of being right. This is interesting that web sites with faulty spellings get search promotion whereas the right ones are fighting out for a place in search page results.

Opportunity cost of spelling variations / misspellings

Whatever be the reasons, linguistic variation or misspellings, there is one thing damn definite: you are suffering an opportunity cost. This is simply because users do not type in multiple variants while looking for a specific term in search engines. Once the search pages are displayed, they zero in on the dished out set of information to satisfy their queries. If your web site does not contain the variant of the term the user typed in for getting information in the search engines, you lose your potential traffic.

The loss of traffic, and hence potential business losses are also on the cards for your web sites even in the case where you are not listed in the search pages because of the ignorance of visitor to spell certain word or words in the right manner.

Solutions which are not relevant anymore and may backfire

Webmasters have realized long back that there must be some effective ways to address this special issue. As a result thereof, they found out several methods to deal with the problem, and reached at certain solutions.

Before I will discuss some working solutions toward this end, let's have a look on the solutions that once remedied the problem, but are no longer effective or practicable due to the fact that search engine algorithm keeps on changing and improving upon its existing deficiencies.

Listing variant spellings and misspellings in keyword tags

In order to prevent the loss of traffic caused due to spelling variants or misspellings, it was quite customary in the time bygone to list all the variants of the keyword and its possible misspellings in keyword tags. Like for example, if a particular page is about elearning, the Meta tags would seem like:

However, this technique ceased to be effective any more as Google does not bother to index Meta tags as of now. This technique in not only redundant now, but also can be detrimental for the visibility in other search engines for your web site. Search spiders do not take this fact favorably that certain keywords are there in the Meta tags and are not logically repeated in the body part.

Taking recourse in visual camouflage

There was yet another tactic to in the past to deal with this problem of variations and misspellings. Basically, webmasters thought that it would be a better idea to hide the keywords in the web pages capitalizing on the visual effect of color. They opted for placing keywords with white text against a white background under the right assumption that users with GUI browser would not be able to discover it.

This tactic worked fine until search engines started looking for color change in the HTML tags, and came heavily against employing such techniques. The web sites might face the music of their degradation in the search engines or an exclusion if they are found to lay back on such unscrupulous means.

In addition to it, slightly different form of such tactic was masking the color change in Cascading Style Sheets which served the same purpose. Search engines took cognizance of this fact too, leaving webmasters much in bewilderment.

Solutions that might work

There is no any single right solution to deal with the problem under discussion. Every solution that webmasters have thought over has got its pros and cons. However, there are certain solutions that can help sort out this problem only if you employ them in moderation and in due consideration of the goals you are pursuing.

Here are the solutions that can help you resolve this dilemma.

Using all variant spellings and misspelling on the page

This solution, of course, seems to be too generalistic, but can work if used with a sense of judgment and priority. As is clear now that various spellings or misspellings can not be placed anywhere other than the body text as doing so might attract severe results or even ban or penalty from the search engines. In this light, the applicability of this solution can well be considered.

But the applicability of this solution suffers from the fact that not all the variants of all words can be used throughout the web site, or say, a particular web page. Even if it is done so with painstaking efforts, one can imagine the clumsy and cumbersome look it may get in the process. This would not be improper to say such look is downright unprofessional and can drive your potential traffic away.

So, first determine what are the crucial keywords on a specific page you can not afford to miss, and that can attract traffic. Only then, use the possible variants of the keywords, and provide a convincing explanation if you are placing the misspellings too on the page. This will do away with the problem of unprofessional content look while helping you to get the kind of visitors you eye on.

Using faulty spellings in image ALT tags

This is yet another way of dealing with spelling issues but with a little thought and caution. One going for this option should objectively assess its advantages against its very disadvantages.

Writing wrong spellings in the image ALT tags offers the advantage that Google does index it, very much unlike Meta tags. This way you can get the traffic of differing writing habits to your site, and get benefited. With its comes the disadvantage that users who do not use GUI browser can easily see the clutters of spelling in the image ALT tags, raising detrimental issues all over again.

But for users with GUI browser, it is a working solution.

Conclusion

Like better things in life, it is about your discretion. So, enjoy your sense of judgment and act accordingly!
